Jesus Simon Peter and Nebuchadnezzar's Dream on the Rock
Many at times in your life as a Christian, a question always at one point comes in your mind. If Jesus were to ask you today who He is, what would be your answer? Is he just a preacher or a miracle worker. What would your answer be?
Thanks be to God for His Holy Spirit whom He has given to us to lead and guide us in the truth. If He lives in you He will always testify of Christ Jesus.
However in the chapter below, the disciples of Christ are caught up with this question.
Mathew 16:
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
Simon Peter says, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God"
Jesus was so much amazed that finally He found an agreement on earth and that the people He came for had finally discovered who He was.
Many people today have never understood the response and the revelation that Jesus gave on that day. They mistake Peter to be this rock that Jesus will build his church upon.
Infact it is not in Peter that He will build the Church, but upon the revelation that He is the Messiah that He will bring His Kingdom here on earth.
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Peter will only have the keys to it, and this is why on the day of Pentecost when the Church Kingdom was established here on earth,Peter was able to give the first sermon with power from the Holy Spirit and about three thousand men were added to their number in a single day. When people accept Jesus as their Lord and savior, that is the Kingdom of God expanding here on earth or Jesus building His Church.
You can build the best Church on Peter's burial site, but that is not Christ building His Church. Jesus will build His Church when people acknowledge who He is, that He is the Messiah and the Rock that came down from heaven to destroy all the earthly kingdoms.
In comparison to Nebuchadnezzar's dream in the book of Daniel about the Rock that was cut from the mountains,we see a clear illustration of what Jesus came to do on the face of the earth.(Daniel 2:37-43/ 2:41-44)
Another thing to note is that,Jesus did not say He will build His Churches, but He said He will build His Church.
The world will only be saved from this kingdom by the power from above, this is the very reason the stone is cut from the mountain signifying the coming of Jesus from heaven to save the world.
Today we are living in the Church age that has greatly rendered the kingdom of the world powerless. When the Church shall be taken away at the rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:16), the antichrist will come and rule for a period of seven years after-which the Messiah will come to fully establish His reign on earth for another one thousand years.(Revelation 20:5) as the enemy is bound in chains for these years.
As long as the Church of Jesus is still on the face of the earth, the kingdoms of this world will remain weak and never united.
Jesus is the Rock of our Salvation,He is also the only unshaken foundation of the saints. The apostles can never save you, even Simon Peter who received the revelation is waiting for Him the Messiah to come and finalize everything.
The days are indeed gone and we are in the end of days, let us prepare and be ready for our bridegroom Jesus Christ.
